GOŚCINNOŚĆ - HOSPITALITY

Zastanawiało mnie, jak to możliwe że Armenia zachowała tak dużo tradycji i obyczajów. Położenie Armenii nie należy to najbezpieczniejszych, a życie jej mieszkańców nigdy nie było łatwe. Otoczona zewsząd przez wrogie i w większości muzułmańskie państwa (poza Gruzją), ziemia Ormian na przemian targana była wojnami i podbojami. Przez wieki Ormianie tracili niepodległość, to znów ją odzyskiwali krwawą i heroiczną walką, by po chwili znów ją stracić. Przez cały ten czas istnienia i nieistnienia państwa, nieprzerwanie istniał naród, który całymi siłami pielęgnował i kultywował tradycje oraz kulturę dając tym samym kolejnym pokoleniom młodych Ormian poczucie przynależności do jednej wspólnoty i ojczyzny. Było to sposobem walki z próbą wykorzenienia narodu ormiańskiego, wyniszczenia go i zgniecenia. Dzięki temu, u Ormian można dostrzec niebywały patriotyzm, godność, poczucie wartości, szacunek wobec własnej historii i dumę z jej dorobku. Ormianie z błyskiem w oku opowiadają o ich pierwszym chrześcijańskim państwie, o alfabecie i Mesropie Masztocu. Na nowinki z Zachodu spoglądają spode łba i niespieszno jest im się przypasować.

Podczas podróży do Garni zostałyśmy zaproszone na poczęstunek i kawę do mieszkańców Garni, poza tym Panie w roli przewodników oprowadziły nas nie tylko po Garni, ale też pojechały z nami do Gerarda (fot. Agnieszka Błażek)

Ziemia, na której żyją Ormianie jest trudna i zawsze była. Mimo to, kochają ją nade wszystko. Chętnie chwalą się swoimi domowymi wyrobami, konfiturami, miejscowymi owocami, podkreślając przy tym ich niepowtarzalny smak i aromat. Częstują winami i koniakiem, zapraszają na tradycyjne ormiańskie dania. Robią to przy tym nie na pokaz i nie sztucznie, a prawdziwie, od serca i szczerze.

Ormianie są naiwnie otwarci i nie chcę ich tutaj w żadne sposób obrazić. Po prostu ich gościnność i odkrytość kompletnie nie pasuje do tego, jak przez tak wiele wieków potraktował ich los. Ormianie ugoszczą, napoją, najedzą i przenocują, podzielą się wszystkim co mają i opowiedzą wszystko co wiedzą. Pod tym względem są niesamowici i mam nadzieję, że to dobro kiedyś im się zwróci. Mimo wszystko, dla człowieka z Zachodu jest to zjawisko trochę niebywałe. Osobiście nie byłam przyzwyczajona do aż takiej gościnności i podchodziłam do tego z rezerwą lub wręcz obawą. No bo jak to, obcy ludzie i od razu do domu? Mnie to pachniało podstępem...okazuje się jednak, że w większości nie mają oni złych zamiarów. Chcą po prostu ugościć, pochwalić się swoim krajem i przedstawić go z jak najlepszej strony. Nie namawiam nikogo, żeby ślepo wierzył każdemu nieznajomemu człowiekowi, bo wiadomo jak jest, wszędzie są i lepsi i gorsi...

O gościnności Ormian jeszcze pewnie nie raz napiszę, bo zaskakuje mnie ona za każdym razem tak samo silnie...

I was wondering, how it is possible that Armenia has preserved so many traditions and customs. The location of Armenia has never been the safest one, and the life of its people has never been easy. Surrounded on all sides by enemies, mostly muslim countries (except Georgia), the land of Armenia was alternately affected by wars and conquests. During centuries Armenians were loosing their independence, heroically fighting for it and after a while loosing it again and again... Throughout this period of existence and non-existence of their state, Armenians existed constantly as a nation. With all forces they were cultivating their traditions and culture, giving by this a sence of belonging to the same community and country for next generations. It was their way of fighting with enemies' attempt of eradicating and crushing Armenian. For all this years, Armenian became a proud nation, incredibly patriotic, with dignity, self-esteem and respect for their history and pride of their achievements. Armenians, with a twinkle in their eyes, talk about their country as a first Christian country in the world, about their alphabet and Mesrop Masztoc, musicians and writers. They are not convinced about western novelties and don't hurry to absorb them - and this is what I admire the most.
The land, where Armenians live, is difficult and has always been. Nonetheless, they still love it very much. They praise their domestic products, preserves, local fruits and underlie their unique taste and aroma. They regale foreigners with local cognac, wines and enjoy showing traditional Armenian cuisines. They don't do this to show up or artificially, but truly, from the deep of their hearts and really honestly.
Armenians are naively opened, and by saying this I don't mean to offend them. I'm just thinking, that their hospitality and openness completely don't fit to through what they came for over centuries. Armenians love foreigners, they will always host you the best they can, they will watered you and feed you with all they've got, they will provide you a place to stay, they will share everything they've got and tell everything they know. They are amazing and I hope, that everything they do for people like me, will be returned doubly.
But, for me as a little bit "western" person, this whole hospitality was quite an incredible phenomenon at first. Personally, I was not used to such openness and I approached it with caution or even fear at the beginning. I mean, how can it be? I'm a stranger and they invite me? Without asking who I am and so on...? It was strange for me ... But it turns out, that mostly, they don't have bad intentions. They just want to host you, show off their country and provide with all the best they've got. I don't encourage anyone to blindly believe in every stranger you meet, because you know how it is, everywhere there are good and bad people, but don't look at them like on criminals, if they are nice to you. They are nice, because this is the way they are! 
Armenian hospitality is still an open subject for me, and I think it will suprise me not once, so I will write about it as long as I am here.
